A New Untethered Jailbreak Vulnerability Found by Pod2g

Pod2g, a former chronic Dev-Team member who have found many exploits in iOS, just tweeted that he has found a new untethered jailbreak vulnerability. It’s still unclear whether this untethered vulnerability is found in bootrom or the iOS 4.3 or 4.2.1 firmware.

For those unfamiliar, a jailbreak vulnerability is NOT an exploit. Hackers first find a vulnerability, then work on it to develop an exploit. The exploit is then used in a jailbreak tool to jailbreak iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. Below is the picture shared by Pod2g.

Dev-Team and Comex are working on untethered iOS 4.3 and iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak. Chronic Dev-Team has also demoed their Greenpoisn to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 untethered. Hopefully, the exploit developed from this new vulnerability will be preserved for future firmware jailbreak.

We’ll update you as we know more about this new untethered jailbreak vulnerability.
