Sony xperia X10 to jump from android 2.1(eclair) to 2.3(gingerbread)

The wait for owners of Sony Ericsson's Xperia X10 may soon be over. The company will soon be rolling out the Gingerbread upgrade for the smartphone. The current official version of Android OS on the Xperia X10 is 2.1 Eclair, which means that SE will leapfrog directly to 2.3 without going for 2.2 Froyo. It must be noted that this smartphone is still receiving Eclair updates in some parts of the world.

The X10 meets all the hardware requirements for the Gingerbread upgrade, such as a 1 GHz processor and 384 MB RAM. SE will tweak the upgrade patch so that it will run flawlessly and smoothly on the smartphone. Some of the features expected to be added with this upgrade are Facebook inside Xperia, which was introduced in Xperia Mini handsets at their launch. This feature lets users connect to Facebook, share, and Like posts easily and conveniently through the mobile phone.

Very little information is available at the moment about details regarding the improvements and changes that this upgrade will bring. We will keep you posted as more details emerge.
