Body language to control gmail

Gmail has introduced their new feature called ‘Gmail Motion’. It has been a great free email service which already had a lot of features that other companies were trying to adopt. With Gmail Motion, Google and Gmail have taken a leap ahead of others.

As Gmail’s Product Manager Paul McDonald describes in a video on this new service, email had a lot of catching up to do compared to other internet based activities. Newest portable devices and technologies have provided us with ease of use with everything we do on the internet. But so far, nothing has been done to improve our email experience. We are still stuck with using the keyboard and our mouse while motion gaming has become a sensation.

Well, all that is going to change. Gmail Motion is going to make use of human gesture or body language as an input for typing an email, sending it, replying to it and everything else we do everyday with our email. The idea is to use the webcam to capture the gestures of a human user and interpret with a clever algorithm into commands. For example, to reply an email, all you need to do is to point backwards with your thumb. It’s that easy.
The closest resemblance to any gesture approach is the Mozilla FireFox add-on called Mouse Gestures Redox that allow users to perform some gestures using mouse for performing some simple operations. Navigating forward or back on a page or selecting some bookmarks were the only functionalities. Gmail Motion is far more advanced since it is using the body language as an input. And these movements have another benefit at the personal level; users will move more than ever to use Motion. It’s way better than sitting down for hours and typing.
The possibilities are endless for a technology like Motion. It can very well be the next step towards the way we use computers. With the introduction of touch screen and motion sensing devices, life has become a lot easier. Motion can definitely fill in the gap for emailing and make the interaction between us and our computers a lot more engaging.
