Iphone shows brilliance by detecting radiations

Scosche’s newest mobile accessory is a radiation detector and app for the iPhone and iPod touch. The RDTX-PRO is a detector that allows users to accurately detect gamma radiation above 60keV within plus or minus 5 percent accuracy.

“The detector is as accurate as units that cost significantly more and is much smaller in size,” said Julius James, Radiation Specialist of Fluke Global Calibration Laboratories, in a press release.

The detector attaches to an iPhone or iPod touch via the dock connector. As a standalone radiation alarm, the RDTX-PRO runs on a single AA battery for 96 hours of detection. The free iOS app shows you a meter of radiation levels as safe (green), elevated (yellow) or dangerous (red), which can also be shared on Facebook, Twitter and Google Maps. Available for $329.99, with $10 from each unit going towards charity, including ones aiding those affected by the Japanese earthquake and tsunami.
