Samsung Electronics announced just today in Seoul, South Korea, two of its upcoming LTE-capable Android smartphones–one of which might catch the attention of international eyes: the Samsung Galaxy S II HD LTE.
The other device is the Samsung Galaxy S II LTE, which features a screen size bigger than the first version of the Samsung Galaxy S II. The Samsung Galaxy S II LTE comes with a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen panel, while the earlier Samsung Galaxy S II came with only a 4.27-inch display. The display supports a resolution of 800×480 pixels.
The Samsung Galaxy S II HD LTE, on the other hand, has a much bigger screen size–at 4.65 inches–supporting a resolution of 1280×720 pixels at a display ratio of 16:9 on an HD Super AMOLED screen, said to be better and more power-efficient than Super AMOLED Plus.
Samsung claims the display technology allows for 110% natural color reproduction and provides crisp and vivid viewing even from a 180-degree angle. The Galaxy S II HD LTE also packs a faster 1.5-GHz dual-core processor.
Both devices support 4G LTE network technology, reported to deliver data speeds up to 5 times the speed of 3G connections. The two devices will also carry 1,850-mAh battery packs, 8-megapixel primary cameras, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0 support, Near Field Communication (NFC) capability, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Both Android smartphones are 9.5 millimeters thin.
The Samsung Galaxy S II HD LTE will also support HSPA+, EV-DO Rev. A, WCDMA, and GSM networks. Samsung will be releasing the Galaxy S II HD LTE on South Korean mobile carriers SK Telecom, KT, and LG U+. The Galaxy S II LTE variant, on the other hand, will apparently be made available only on SK Telecom, according to Samsung’s official press announcement.
Samsung has not announced versions for global launch, but what’s stopping it from announcing international versions of the two devices at next month’s CTIA Enterprise and Applications conference?
It probably wouldn’t even surprise us if the Galaxy S II HD LTE makes it to Verizon Wireless as the rumored Samsung DROID Prime. Unlike other major U.S. carriers, Verizon Wireless has snubbed the Samsung Galaxy S II, allegedly to give way to a much better Android smartphone. The Samsung Galaxy S II HD LTE looks like a possible candidate.
