Motorola has announced details on the new Droid Razr, which will be the thinnest smartphone ever made.  Back in 2004, the Motorola Razr was the hottest selling phone around, something that Motorola are keen to duplicate in a post iPhone world.

A lot of attention has obviously gone into the design of the Motorola Droid Razr, which is facing enormous competition from Apple and Android products.  “Our mission was to create a true object of desire, incredibly thin, that delivers features without compromise,” said Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha during the introductory Droid Razr presentation.

The width of the Razr is only 7.1mm, with the phone also being incredibly light at 4.48 pounds.  Other features include access to the fast 4G LTE network, a large 4.3 inch display with 960 x 540 pixel resolution, and an 8MP front facing camera with 1080p video recording capability.

Despite being designed as an object of desire, the Droid Razr is also a very serious phone.  Not only is it thinner and lighter than the new iPhone 4S, but the display is also larger.  However, the 3.5 inch Retina display on the iPhone 4S does come with a higher resolution of 960 x 640.  Support for 4G LTE is also a big advantage for the Razr, with customers able to access faster network speeds.

In terms of the battery life, Motorola are promising about 12.5 hours of talk time and 8.9 hours of video playback, through the use of a 1780mAh battery.

The Motorola Droid Razr comes with 16GB of internal memory, a pre-installed 16GB microSD memory card, and a price tag of $300 with a two year Verizon contract.  While the lack of an NFC chip is a bit of a let down, the Razr looks like a very serious, and desirable, phone.
